Scholarship Awardees

New Day School Alumni Association Board Members attended the New Day Primary & Junior High School graduation ceremony held June 30, 2016, at the United Pentecostal Church, Grants Pen Road. We awarded Michelia Brown 2016 class valedictorian the NDSSA Scholarship and Beresford Williams received the Philip E. Petgrave Scholarship.

Both students were selected as recipients of the awards having demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, earning high grades in the GSAT Examinations. They are now attending Ardenne High School and Gaynstead High School, respectively. We wish the students and the graduates of 2016 continued success.

During our trip to Jamaica, we met with the school Chairman of the Board Mr. Ian Muirhead, the faculty, and Delroy Chuck, Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Saint Andrew North Eastern and the Minister of Justice. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their commitment and contribution to the empowerment of students in the Jamaican Diaspora.

In 2015 New Day School Alumni Association Scholarships were awarded to seven recipients: Michelia Brown, Tae-Malik Harrison, Juan- Pablo Walker, Demetre Perry, Gabrielle Gunn, (pictured above) Kurt Hassan Smith (top right) and Marlando Allen. (bottom right)

Kurt and Marlando are now attending Kingston College and St. George’s College, respectively. Jawanza Curate and Ishmael Michael were awarded the Philip E. Petgrave Scholarship. The NDSAA Scholarships are awarded to students with demonstrated financial need and high GSAT scores. We celebrate this year’s scholarship winners and are proud of the hard work and the dedication of the faculty and students of New Day Primary & Junior High School.

Ms. Evelyn Godden Vice President of New Day School Alumni Association New York Chapter; presented Brandon Powell, a laptop on behalf of New Day School Alumni Association on July 29, 2014. Brandon attends Excelsior High School and is an exceptional student and a recipient of the prestigious Richard D. Simpson Scholarship Fund.

In attendance were Mr. Garfield McDonald, Principal for New Day Primary and Junior High School, Mr. Garth McBean, Attorney At Law and fellow alumnus, faculty members, parents, along with former students/recipients of Richard D. Simpson Scholarship Fund participated in the presentation.

The event was well received; everyone left the event inspired on what both organizations are doing to make a difference in the lives of the students in Jamaica.
